A quite ridiculous challenge saw 'The Technical Brothers' and the legendary funk and soul man Craig Charles, playing a back-to-back DJ set on TV using home DJ equipment, at a summer music festival. The Rave Cave steps in and adds some light-up and trippy treats to the mix. Read more about how The Rave Cave livens up The Gadget Show DJ spinoff in this blog.
The Gadget Show Episode
The 45-minute episode aired on Channel 5 on Friday 19th October 2018, as the 3rd episode in a long-standing 28 seasons. The episode looked at a variety of different technologies including home cinema systems, consumer DJ mixers, gamer conferences, the latest apps and the tech wall of fame.
In this episode, Ortis and Jon were at The Green Meadows Festival in Peterborough to live demo a selection of DJ mixers with Craig Charles set to perform later that day. The producers decided to run a head-to-head competition to see if the mixing decks they'd showcased could give the inexperienced 'Technical Brothers', an edge over Craig Charles, a man who'd mixed tunes for many years... *Sign* Oh boy.
In true fashion, The Rave Cave stepped in to supply the team, and everyone there, with some of our favourite glow up products to wow and stun the crowds.
The Gadget Show DJ Spinoff
Predictably, given that Ortis had no experience DJing (apart from a few hours practice before), meaning that Craig Charles absolutely annihilated him every single round. The switch overs were particularly awful, with Craig Charles having to help Ortis out at a few different stages. Jon was the highlight of the spinoff, dancing merrily the GloFX Pixel Pro Goggles and Outline's LED Sound Reactive Masks. Like a true Bez, getting the crowd hyped up on stage whilst everyone busts some moves on the dancefloor.
"The funk is strong with you Ortis, but you're not a Jedi yet. Make way for the Master." - Craig Charles
As for the DJ spinnoff, pitching a well-experienced DJ who's used to spinning records, against a man who doesn't know where the volume dial is on a mix deck, doesn't fairly answer the question of the quality of the DJ equipment at all. Any DJ will tell you that this skill takes a while to get the hang of, so an experiment like this is rather futile and only serves as entertaining TV. But nonetheless, we loved watching Craig Charles lay down some absolutely corcker tunes during his set.
What were their reactions?
Not only was it so nice to hear that the producers had a lot of fun filming with our rave accessories from GloFX and Outline Montreal, but the living legend Craig Charles loved the LED Sound Reactive masks. A true honour.
Who won The Gadget Show DJ Spinoff?
Craig Charles absolutely smashed it and finished Ortis off in the final round with this absolute beauty. Groove is in the Heart. The tent definitely filled with happy faces and plenty of glowsticks in the air. A record absolutely guaranteed to put a groove in your booty.
